Grant Shapps visits St John’s C of E Primary School to meet the pupils and answer their questions about Parliament, politics, and the role of an MP.
Following their experience of Parliament Week at the end of last year, pupils from St John’s were keen to find out more about the world of politics and recently welcomed Grant to their school. Grant was treated to an excellent tour of the school by three Year 6 pupils then faced questions from pupils ranging from how he became an MP to what his proudest achievement for Welwyn Hatfield was.
Deputy Head Rebekah Ng commented on Grant’s visit to the school:
"In November, Years 3-6 celebrated Parliament Week and were keen to learn more about Parliament, MPs, and how laws are made. We appreciated Grant Shapps taking time to visit St John's to share his wealth of experience in Government. The classes prepared interesting questions and Grant answered them in detail - explaining the role of an MP and cabinet member, and his plans for Welwyn Hatfield. It was an informative and interesting visit. Thank you!"
Reflecting on the visit, Grant said it was “a privilege to visit St John’s and face the excellent array of thoughtful questions prepared by students. It was clear that they’d engaged well with Parliament Week and I hope to see the students get involved with politics in the future.
I’d really like to thank Headteacher Mrs Michelle Boylan and Deputy Head Miss Rebekah Ng for hosting me at the school, and Ellie, Charlotte and Teddy for their fantastic tour. These three Year Six students are a real credit to the school.”
